Historic Preservation - The Guild House, Cathedral of All Saints, Albany
This is a special project for us as it has made possible the salvation and rehabilitation of a hidden historic building. The Cathedral of All Saints is the first Episcopal Cathedral in America and called Albany’s Hidden Cathedral as when the neoclassical State Education Department Building was finished in 1913, the state building hid the English gothic cathedral from the sight of most of the rest of the city. Hidden behind this hidden cathedral is the Guild House, an endangered standalone educational building that has been abandoned for nearly 50 years.
In the video above we talk with Bryan Clapper, Structural Engineer, Fleet Hower, Professor at the Rensselaer School of Architecture, and John Zagame from the Pioneer Foundation who is leading the preservation and restoration effort. It’s always amazing to see how our partners use the Scan2Plan service. Here is a view into how Scan2Plan has laid the foundation for the rebirth of a historic neogothic marvel. See the article in the Albany Times Union about the restoration effort!
